There are innumerable reasons why people want to visit Europe.  Some people want to visit the country where their relatives originated – maybe even reconnect with family still living there.  Others are interested in history, and all European countries have plenty of fascinating history to share.  Some visitors are there to enjoy the magnificent artwork and architecture that can be found around every corner.  Almost everyone wants to experience different cultures, meeting local people, sharing in local traditions and festivals, and best of all sampling ethnic food and wine. 

The European countries that attract most tourists are France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Switzerland, Germany, Ireland, Scotland and the United Kingdom.  Others are gaining in popularity, and Sweden, Belgium, Portugal, Turkey and Croatia are all worthy of a visit because of their historical significance and the richness of their art and culture.
