My family and I traveled to Iceland this past July to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. It was definitely a trip of a lifetime! We arrived in the morning after a direct overnight flight from MSP at the Keflavik International Airport. We rented a large van in Reykjavik and headed to snorkel the Silfra fissure.

The Silfra fissure is a dive site located in Thingvellir National Park. We had a tour set up and tour guides waiting for us when we arrived. It's known for its exceptionally clear water and its location over the rift between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. It was truly a unique and fascinating experience.

Afterwards we drove to our home for the next two nights, Seljalandsfoss Horizons. Seljalandsfoss Horizons are a collection of luxury cabins located a few minute’s drive from the Seljalandsfoss waterfall. We all fell in love with the Nordic design and the views of waterfalls from the cabins. Day 2 was our day to chase waterfalls! My first time walking behind a waterfall. In the afternoon after a staircase of about 500 steps we went on an unexpected hike to more waterfalls & amazing views. This is the place to get up close to waterfalls!

Our next two days we spent in the lovely town of Vik, a small village located on the southern coast of Iceland. Vík is known for its stunning black sand beaches, particularly Reynisfjara Beach, which is famous for its dramatic basalt sea stacks, and towering cliffs. I highly recommend the tiny crepe stand when you enter the town or Black Crust Pizzeria for a delicious lunch.

One of our favorite tours was the zodiac boat tour in Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. We had an excellent guide and we got up close to the icebergs and experienced the tranquility of the glacial lake. The icebergs float serenely on the water's surface and come in various shapes and sizes. Our guide described it as an ever-changing art museum of glacial ice.

Our amazing Iceland adventure ended with two days in Reykjavik and a trip to the relaxing Sky Lagoon just outside of the city. It was a truly an extraordinary vacation with unforgettable experiences, awe-inspiring landscapes, and memories to cherish for a lifetime. I worked with a local Iceland travel partner to plan our activities, a trusted vendor to book our lodging and my expertise to plan a perfect itinerary for our family.

Whether you’re planning a week long travel adventure or a short visit to Reykjavik while traveling onto Europe please let me know if I can help you plan your next amazing travel adventure.
