On a luxurious trip to Cancun with my dear friend Maggie, we both got to enjoy the spa at the Royal in Cancun called "Spazul". This beautiful, beachfront all inclusive resort was the perfect backdrop for an excellent spa experience. Maggie and I both made reservations for services on our second day there. I had a Mayan Ritual Hot Stone Massage and Maggie had a Deep Tissue massage. We were both so impressed by our services, we ended up going back the next day for other treatments.

Spazul is located on the south side of the property and outside the spa are 5 hydromassage pool. One for your ankles and calves, one for your thighs, your lower back, your upper back and full body. What a great idea ~ except the different temperature pools didn't turn on when you pushed the buttons, instead they seemed to be on their own timers so it was hit or miss.

Getting a locker and a tour was also interesting. I was lead into the women's locker room and shown a seat. I thought they were going to get my locker set up for me. Instead I was just left there on my own. I ended up sharing Maggie's locker so I could enjoy the indoor thermal pools and steam room before my massage.

Outside the spa was a private area with loungers, outdoor massage cabanas, and another hydrotherapy pool overlooking the ocean. We spent much of our afternoons in this area after our treatments.

We were both greeted for our services and directed to a separate building for our massages. Luckily I was wearing my swimming suit. There I was introduced to Luis who did my Hot Stone Massage. This was honestly one of the best massages I've ever had in my life. I couldn't tell when the stones stopped and his hands started. Lots of oil, very rhythmic, and just the right pressure. When it was over he quietly said, "Fifty minutes is just not enough time." I couldn't agree more completely. The only problem we had was some of the stones slid off during the massage and crashed onto the floor. This was LOUD and not the kind of jolt one wants during a serene massage.

We both decided it was worth going back again the next day and this time I reserved an 80 minute massage. Sadly this experience wasn't quite as good. Because of some scheduling issues, I was not lead to the treatment room until 20 minutes after my scheduled time. And I really feel like I got shorted at least 10-15 minutes of massage because of it. It was still a wonderful massage, but this therapist was not as good as Luis and I didn't get the full benefit of the 80 minutes.

All in all, Spazul was an excellent spa experience for both of us and I can say I'd go back in a minute.
