While I had visited Australia previously, a recent trip ‘Down Under’ took me past the normal tourist haunts of Sydney to the Outback. Uluru, located in the center of the Outback, which many of know as Ayers Rock, is sacred to the Aboriginal people.

This remote area is perfect for travelers looking for soft adventure and offers many opportunities to get out into nature. I hiked a canyon, rode a camel, drove an ATV and partook in both a sunrise and a sunset tour.

In addition, I feel very fortunate to have been able to meet with the Aboriginals to learn their culture and their creation stories of the “Dreamtime” and to try some local foods like kangaroo and crocodile, all while stargazing into the southern skies.
