Perfect Moments in the Hawaiian Islands

My husband and I recently celebrated one of our wedding anniversaries in our favorite location – the perfect getaway place – the Hawaiian Island of Kauai, nicknamed “the Garden Isle.” The moment our aircraft landed in Lihue, it immediately felt as though we had been transported to one of the most beautiful places on earth. If you’re looking for a peaceful and relaxing vacation, one with great weather almost every day; if you want to explore on your own and are looking to escape, Kauai is the island to visit. Only three percent of Kauai’s land area is commercial or residential. What this means is that you’ll be surrounded by nature, crescent-shaped beaches, waterfalls, rainbows and endless shades of green.

We prefer active vacations and so we enjoyed hiking the Kalalau Trail at Ha'ena State Park, where we could view the NaPali Coast from just a few miles away; we also enjoyed watching the surfers in Hanalei Bay. Our favorite beach is Poipu, located along the southern coast and reachable by driving through the Tree Tunnel. Fortunate visitors might spot an endangered monk seal or a giant sea turtle on the beach; we were lucky to see both!

Driving around the island is very easy; with just a few main roads, it’s almost impossible to get lost and the local people are very friendly. The state of Hawaii is a place close to my heart; my father was born on Oahu and when I was growing up, we traveled there many times to visit relatives. I still have some family living in the islands.
