When I go on vacation, I like to make sure that all details are taken care of (flights, hotels, transfers, sightseeing) yet also want to have some free time to explore whatever I might be interested in doing that day. I know most of my clients als...

The impression that most people have of a vacation in Jamaica is staying at a luxurious hotel, lounging on a beach or sitting with friends at a swim-up bar and maybe dancing the night away to reggae music.  There’s an opportunity for you to experience Jamaica in an entirely different way. The Jamaican Tourist Board encourages tourists to join their “Meet the People'' program.  This allows you to become acquainted with a local host with similar interests.  It’s possible to even stay with the family for a night or two as your host introduces you to some of Jamaica's “hidden gems” and gives you a unique perspective of life on this beautiful, friendly island.  You can register with the Tourist Board online, giving them a few days notice to find a suitable match.

Jamaica’s economy is driven by the tourist trade, which is one reason the native people are so welcoming and so focused on showing visitors a good time.  Because of its natural beauty, heavenly weather, and carefree culture it’s hard NOT to enjoy every minute of a vacation in Jamaica.  The usual tourist hot spots – rum distilleries, Dunn’s River Falls and the Bob Marley Museum are all interesting places to visit.  But why not try a “spelunking” adventure in one of the many limestone caverns or snorkeling in the clear Caribbean waters to admire the many colorful species of fish found in the reefs.  Visit Hope Gardens to enjoy the wide variety of tropical plant life native to the area,

One of the aforementioned “hidden gems” is Windsor Spring.  This is the site of a small pool of water that has a high concentration of minerals and sulfur.  When a flame touches the surface of the water, it catches fire – hence the nickname of the “Fire Hole.”   Visitors can wade and bathe in the water, which is said to have healing properties.  Another “off the grid” attraction is YS Falls, lush gardens surrounding a series of seven waterfalls and a huge spring-fed wading pool.  Hiking in the Blue Mountains is another adventure that will take you off the beaten path and into the heart of the unspoiled and unpopulated Jamaican forest region.

Does this sound good?  Let me help you get started on planning a vacation to Jamaica.
