Gates to the Chateau's Entrance

There’s your everyday châteaux and then there’s Château de Fontainebleau. The medieval palace was once home to Napoleon. And it’s another level of luxe. With Cafes, Shopping, medieval stature, and grand surrounding ponds, Chateau Fontainebleu took my breath away while strolling the cobble stone roads.

The Château de Fontainebleau is a historic palace located in the town of Fontainebleau, France, about 55 kilometers (34 miles) southeast of Paris. It is one of the largest royal châteaux in France and has served as a residence for French monarchs from the 12th century until the Second Empire. The château is renowned for its exquisite architecture, expansive gardens, and rich history. The history of the Château de Fontainebleau dates back to the 12th century when a hunting lodge was built on the site. Over the centuries, subsequent kings and queens expanded and transformed the original structure into a magnificent palace. Notable monarchs who contributed to its development include King Louis IX, King Francis I, King Henry IV, and Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. One of the key features of the château is its architectural blend of various styles, including Gothic, Renaissance, and classical. This fusion of architectural elements gives Fontainebleau its unique character.
