My friends and I decided to take a spur of the moment vacation and spend a long weekend in Copenhagen! My maiden name is Olsen, spelled the Danish way, so that helped spur my desire to visit this old Scandinavian City.
We hit the ground running, after a short train ride into Copenhagen Central Station! This beautiful old European city had the perfect a combination of modern and historical architecture ... and bicycles, lots of bicycles! Copenhagen claims to have more bicycles than Amsterdam! Next few days we visited Frederiksborg Castle (Crown jewels), changing of the guards at the Palace, canal cruise to see the Little Mermaid and Nyhavn Harbour. We also tasted traditional smorrebrod and Danish hotdogs!
The highlight of the short trip for all of us was a visit to the Forest Tower! Located about an hour south of Copenhagen is Camp Adventure, home of recently opened Forest Tower. The way to the top is on an elevated walkway with no stairs. When you reach the top you are over a half mile high! The view is spectacular and on a clear day you can see Sweden!
Although it was a short trip, we felt we got a great taste of the Danish “hygge” way of being and would return again for an extended vacation.
