The early summer months of June and July are the most pleasant weather- wise, as August can be very hot and sticky. Lisbon residents tend to get away in August, vacationing in a more temperate climate, and as a result some businesses and attractions are closed in August.
If you don’t like crowds, August is the time to go!
In June and July you’ll find more crowds, but also more things to see and do. The long days allow for a lot of evening entertainment, with bars and restaurants open late and live music around every corner in local gardens and squares.
The City of Seven Hills is full of winding, narrow streets, flower-filled terraces, and picturesque overlooks which make evening strolls through the city a pleasant finish to the day. And you’ll be hungry! Stop at a local “tasca” -- family-run restaurant -- for a homemade specialty, and treat yourself to a Ginjinha (popular sweet liqueur). If you’re not ready to call it a night, stop in at a local tavern and take in a performance of Fado, the haunting songs accompanied by classical Portuguese guitar.
Give me a call if you’re ready to experience Lisbon for yourself!
