Viking adds an exciting touch to your journey by offering a complimentary excursion at each port—an aspect that truly thrilled me! These excursions are optional, effortlessly accessible, and cater to individuals of all abilities.
One of the highlights I eagerly anticipated was exploring castles, palaces, and churches, as well as marveling at the architectural beauty of homes and stores in city centers. Included in the tours were visits to the Paleis Het Loo Palace, Heidelberg Castle, and the Spire and Cologne Cathedrals. There was plenty of time provided for capturing pictures, followed by free time to further explore.
Among the most breathtaking sights was the Cologne Cathedral, the largest Gothic church in northern Europe, boasting towers that soar over 500 feet. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996, the cathedral captivates with its awe-inspiring presence, inviting visitors to linger in admiration. You could stare at this amazing site ALL DAY!
Another excursion that captured my heart was the trip to the Black Forest. The comfortable and stunning scenic ride through the German countryside, adorned with vineyards and picturesque villages, led to a fascinating experience. At the Black Forest, you can witness a captivating coo-coo clock demonstration, observe glass-blowing, learn the art of making Black Forest Cake, and savor a delightful lunch featuring German sausage and hot wine.
On days without organized excursions, the leisurely river cruise through the middle Rhine unfolds, presenting a picturesque landscape dotted with castles, historic bridges, charming towns, and majestic mountains—a perfect opportunity to sit back, relax, and immerse yourself in the beauty of the journey.
