Family-Friendly vs. Adults-Only Resorts: Which Is Right for You?

One of the first questions I like to ask my clients is:

“Would you prefer a family-friendly resort or an adults-only resort?

”A common response?

“It doesn’t really matter... but I’m not sure what the difference is.”

Since I hear this so often, I thought it might be helpful to break it down and share some insight.

What Does "Adults-Only" Really Mean?

When some people hear “adults-only resort,” their minds immediately go to swinger or nudist resorts. And yes—those do exist (and I can help with those too if that’s your thing!).

But in most cases, “adults-only” simply means no kids allowed. It’s a more peaceful environment that caters to grown-ups—think romantic getaways, friends’ trips, or honeymoons. The vibe tends to be quieter, more laid-back, and curated for a mature crowd.

That’s where working with a travel advisor like me makes a big difference—I'll make sure you're matched with a resort that fits your style and expectations.

My Take: Why We Love Adults-Only Resorts

In my own travels, my husband and I often choose adults-only resorts. We’ve found them to be more relaxing—less chaos, no cannonballs at the pool bar, no tears at dinner. Even the entertainment is geared toward an adult audience, which is a nice break from the kid-friendly shows you typically see at family resorts.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard a client say something like,

“I love kids—but on vacation, I just don’t want to deal with them.”

Honestly? Same here. And you’re not alone—adults-only resorts have become increasingly popular for this very reason.

But What If You Like a Lively Atmosphere?

That said, adults-only isn’t always the right fit. I’ve worked with couples who love the upbeat energy and social scene of family-friendly resorts. Some travelers enjoy the variety of activities, the liveliness, and yes—even the kids running around having fun.

It all comes down to what kind of experience you're looking for.

That’s Where I Come In

The great thing is—you have options. Whether you're craving calm and quiet or something more upbeat and energetic, there’s a resort that’s perfect for you.

As your travel advisor, I’ll help you navigate those options and figure out what kind of resort best fits your vacation goals, budget, and travel style.

Not sure where to start? Or maybe you've checked out a few adults-only resorts, but they’re all starting to feel the same? If you're dreaming of a getaway or honeymoon that really reflects you, I’d love to help you find the perfect match—let’s connect and make it happen.
