In all my years as a Travel Professional, I’ve asked countless people, “What’s on your must-see list?” And without fail, New Zealand is always at the top! Honestly, who wouldn’t want to experience this majestic ...

Isla Saona, Dominican Republic

This question crosses the minds of many travelers: Is the Dominican Republic safe? My answer? Absolutely — it’s definitely worth visiting right now!

I’ve had the chance to visit the Dominican Republic several times, and I’m looking forward to going back again someday because there’s so much I enjoy about the island—the beautiful beaches, exceptional resorts with top-notch amenities, and the relaxing atmosphere. Fun fact: I actually much prefer the desserts there over those in Mexico! There’s just something about the island’s unique flavors and vibrant vibe that keeps drawing me back. It’s a relaxing getaway, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up being a favorite for you too.

One of the best things about the Dominican Republic is that it’s incredibly cost-friendly without sacrificing quality. You’ll find fantastic luxury resorts delivering amazing experiences and top-notch amenities, often at better value than other Caribbean destinations.

Food here tends to have a more authentic, less Americanized feel, with ethnic influences from European and South African roots. Many travelers love this unique culinary flair, though you’ll still find familiar American options if you want them — just perhaps not quite as overwhelming as in some Mexican all-inclusive resorts.

Like Mexico and Jamaica, the island has faced some negative media coverage. These stories rarely tell the full picture, but the upside is that prices have become more attractive as a result. Luxury accommodations are now available at a fraction of their usual cost — a perfect chance to experience the island without overspending. Just remember, these deals won’t last forever, as prices will eventually return to normal.

With 27 years in the travel industry, I’ve seen this pattern unfold time and again. We would never recommend a destination we wouldn’t happily visit ourselves. Ultimately, the choice is yours — but I’m here to guide you every step of the way.

Over 3 million Americans visit the Dominican Republic each year, many coming back again and again. If you’re thinking about a trip, give me a call! I’d love to help you find the perfect spot on this beautiful island that fits your style and travel dreams.
