New Zealand

In all my years as a Travel Professional, with curiosity I've asked several the question "What are your must see countries?"  I was hard pressed to find one that did not list New Zealand!  I mean who wouldn't wa...

My guy “relax napping” at The Fives Oceanfront

I'd been intrigued with what The Fives Oceanfront was all about, so it was time to check it out for myself to see who would love it here! This 94 room luxury boutique all-inclusive sits on the edge of the quaint small fishing town of Puerto Morelos on a lovely very well maintained slice of white sand beach.

The Accommodations:

The rooms at The Fives Oceanfront are quite spacious & the décor was beautiful. A few of my favorite features were: the comfy bed, huge rain shower, and the hot tub on the balcony that was large enough for two. The room was colored primarily in earth tones, mixing various elements of textiles/Macramé, wood accents, and stone. The plant life was in abundance.  There was gorgeous pottery for the plants as well that I admired. I really love how they've blended modern and nature harmoniously.

The Cuisine: Ala Carte Restaurants / No Buffets!

  • Breakfast: Chicken & waffles, omelet, pancakes/waffles, fresh pineapple & strawberries daily, poached eggs, coffee n baileys.

  • Lunch: Gourmet burgers, crunchy breaded chicken strips, deliciously hearty non-greasy chips n' guacamole with a twist of fresh jalapeño mango & salsa. The fish & chips, "catch of the day," hit the spot too! Oh and to have Jerk Chicken IN Mexico - Loved it!

  • Dinner: Beef tenderloin at Al Mare with a side of penne bolognese was delectable!  Sautéed shrimp with garlic & white wine sauce with arrabiata pasta quite nummy! Lastly, skirt steak appetizer, pure deliciousness!

  • Desserts: Ferrero Rochero, Strawberry and dulce de leche ice creams! Banana brulé with passion fruit jelly just packed full of flavor. If you enjoy banana bread, it’s a must try. Spectacular!

  • Special Dietary Requirements? This resort may be a great choice, as they were very dietary friendly.

The reality is good cuisine can be very subjective, as all-inclusive food can sometimes be hit or miss. The meals here stood out as top-notch. This was the consensus of most travelers we talked to as well, which is great to hear! This includes a gentleman whom bought out the resort. When I asked him what he loved so much about it, food was his top contender. He said for what you pay and how incredible the food is - you cannot beat it! We agreed with his assessment, 100%.

A few other notes on this resort:

  • With this resort being both european plan (no meals/drinks) & all-inclusive, after each meal or beverages they would bring you a receipt to sign. If you’re with all-inclusive, while it’ll show the cost it will also subtract to zero. In this area, you may also tip if you’d like. We loved this option, as we always personally tip — it  was nice to not carry around cash.

  • While most days we were there, the water was relatively calm. We did notice a few days the flags indicated “red,” but it didn’t appear too rough indicating undertow.

  • They were incredibly on top of seaweed clean up! This is something out of any resorts control, however it’s all in how they handle it and they were on top of it daily with no hindrance at all to us in the smelly seaweed regards.

  • Beach vendors seemed to be more scarce in our 5 days here, which was nice. If  you do see a man selling cotton candy, I was told it was delicious at about 70 pesos (roughly $4 USD)

  • There are plenty of activities onsite including: yoga, pilates, beach volleyball, tourney bocce ball, beach walking/shopping tour, giant Jenga tourney, Spanish lessons & complimentary bikes.

  • While you will need to wear a band here the design is sleek and you hardly know it’s there. The small wooden token acts as your key in the elevator/room only allowing guests whom are staying on that floor access. While we've no personal concerns on issues, we appreciated this added security in keeping foot traffic to only those belonging on any given floor.

Who is this resort best for?

  • Those whom crave the simplicity & ease of an all-inclusive that’s set within the charming town of Puerto Morelos. Easy access to experience local shopping, dining and tours within a short 15 minute walk. When able, I do enjoy a walk in to check out the local higher-end jewelers of Mexico never knowing when I’ll find my next sterling silver gem! All of my Mexican "ring finds" I still wear to this day!

  • Those desiring excellent quality & beautifully presented cuisine.

  • Those seeking quality time without the need for constant entertainment.

  • Those looking to truly unwind. Think … Rejuvenate. Read. Relax.

  • Appreciation for Mexican culture meets Jamaican reggae. The Fives Oceanfront is home to the world's first ever RoMarley Beach House, founded by Rohan Marley, son of legendary Bob Marley. This exclusive beach club offers a complete sensory experience of delicious food, creative mixology, and soulful music selection. Ya Mon!

  • Looking for a wedding or family/friends reunion venue to make virtually your own? This would be perfect.

If you are seeking fantastic service, top-rated cuisine and a peaceful vacation I'd not hesitate to head to The Fives Oceanfront.  Let’s start planning your visit!
