New Zealand

In all my years as a Travel Professional, I’ve asked countless people, “What’s on your must-see list?” And without fail, New Zealand is always at the top! Honestly, who wouldn’t want to experience this majestic ...

My guy “relax napping” at The Fives Oceanfront

I’ve always been curious about what The Fives Oceanfront was all about, so I decided it was time to check it out for myself and see who would love it here! This 94-room luxury boutique, all-inclusive resort sits at the edge of the charming fishing town of Puerto Morelos, offering a beautifully maintained stretch of white sand beach.

The Accommodations:

The rooms at The Fives Oceanfront are spacious and beautifully designed. Some of my favorite features included the comfy bed, the huge rain shower, and the hot tub on the balcony—big enough for two! The rooms have a serene, earthy vibe with macramé accents, wood details, stone elements, and lush plant life. The use of natural textures mixed with modern touches creates a harmonious, relaxing atmosphere.

The Cuisine: A La Carte Restaurants, No Buffets!

Breakfast: You’ll find all the usual favorites with a twist—chicken & waffles, omelets, pancakes/waffles, fresh pineapple & strawberries daily, poached eggs, and of course, coffee with a splash of Baileys.

Lunch: Gourmet burgers, crispy chicken strips, perfectly seasoned non-greasy chips with guacamole (with a spicy mango-jalapeño twist), and fresh fish & chips. Oh, and having jerk chicken in Mexico? Yes, please!

Dinner: The meals are outstanding—beef tenderloin at Al Mare paired with penne bolognese was a highlight, as was the sautéed shrimp with garlic & white wine sauce over arrabbiata pasta.

Desserts: A must-try is the banana brulée with passion fruit jelly, packed with flavor. If you're a fan of banana bread, don't miss it. I also loved the Ferrero Rocher and strawberry dulce de leche ice creams!

Special dietary requirements? This resort is an excellent choice, as they cater well to various needs.

The reality is, good food at all-inclusive resorts can be hit or miss, but the cuisine here stood out. This was the consensus of most travelers we met. One guest even mentioned he’d bought out the entire resort, and food was his top reason for loving it. He said, "For what you pay and how incredible the food is, you can’t beat it!" I wholeheartedly agree.

A Few More Notes on The Fives Oceanfront:

  • The resort offers both an all-inclusive plan and a European plan (no meals/drinks), and after each meal, they’ll bring you a receipt to sign. If you’re on the all-inclusive plan, the cost will show but be deducted to zero. Tipping is encouraged, and it was great not to have to carry around cash for tips.

  • Most of our days were calm, but there were a few days when the flags were red. Still, the sea conditions weren’t too rough.

  • They’re excellent at keeping the beach clean of seaweed, which is something you can’t control, but they handle it daily without it ever being an issue.

  • Beach vendors were fairly scarce during our 5-day stay, which was a nice bonus. If you do see a man selling cotton candy, it's supposedly delicious—priced around 70 pesos ($4 USD).

  • There are plenty of activities available: yoga, pilates, beach volleyball, bocce ball, Spanish lessons, beach walks, and even a giant Jenga tournament. You can also borrow bikes for a ride around the area.

  • The resort uses sleek wristbands as room keys that allow access to only your floor—just a little added security, which was a nice touch.

Who is this Resort Best For?

  • Those who crave the simplicity of an all-inclusive with easy access to the quaint town of Puerto Morelos for shopping, dining, and tours. I personally love walking into town to browse for sterling silver gems from local jewelers—my “Mexican ring finds” are some of my favorites.

  • Food lovers who want excellent quality and beautifully presented meals.

  • Anyone looking for peace and quiet without the constant buzz of entertainment—think of it as the perfect place to rejuvenate, read, and relax.

  • If you love a mix of Mexican culture with a touch of reggae vibes, The Fives Oceanfront is home to the world’s first RoMarley Beach House, created by Rohan Marley, son of the legendary Bob Marley. It offers a sensory experience with delicious food, creative cocktails, and soulful music.

  • It’s also an excellent choice for weddings or family/friends reunions, offering a more intimate, customizable experience. In fact, as we were leaving, I thought about this even more because a group had just arrived to celebrate a DJ's 30th birthday party—and they’d bought out the entire resort! We could tell because the staff started setting up all sorts of personalized decor, including custom party banners they made specifically for the birthday bash!

In short, if you’re seeking fantastic service, top-notch cuisine, and a peaceful escape, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Fives Oceanfront. Let’s start planning your visit!
