In all my years as a Travel Professional, I’ve asked countless people, “What’s on your must-see list?” And without fail, New Zealand is always at the top! Honestly, who wouldn’t want to experience this majestic part of the world?
I was fortunate enough to visit both the North and South Islands, and what I love about New Zealand is that it offers the perfect blend of laid-back charm and action-packed adventure, all while being nothing short of epic.
The country is home to endless national parks, a rich Maori culture, and unforgettable experiences like sailing through the sounds while dolphins playfully follow your yacht. And let’s not forget the awe-inspiring moment of witnessing a sperm whale off the coast of Kaikoura—talk about jaw-dropping beauty!
Oh, and did I mention wine? If you’re a fan of great wine (and who isn’t?), New Zealand is a must-visit for its world-class Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, and more. How do I know? Because I couldn’t resist visiting a winery or two during my travels!

Let me start by saying, I’ve wanted to visit Australia since I was a child. Why, you ask? Well, to pet a kangaroo, of course! And yes, I did! Not only did I pet a kangaroo, but I actually fed FOUR at the same time. Childhood dream come true, right? And I can’t wait to go back for round two.
While I was in Sydney, I had the chance to experience the spectacular Vivid Sydney Festival, celebrating its 10th year. It was honestly WOW! Never in my wildest dreams did I think Australia would be so perfect to visit during their winter season. But coming from Minnesota, their “winter” felt more like our fall—absolutely ideal! Seeing the Sydney Opera House light up during the festival was something I’ll never forget.
And then there’s the Blue Mountains region—so lovely to explore on foot. From there, we ventured to Hunter Valley (known to the locals as "The Hunter"), where wine flowed freely, and every glass was more delicious than the last.
Australia’s size is truly hard to grasp until you’ve experienced it firsthand. To put it in perspective: Sydney would be in Florida, Cairns (home of the Great Barrier Reef) would be in Maine, Uluru (Ayers Rock) would be in Kansas, Melbourne would be in New Orleans, and Perth would be in Los Angeles.

I’ve been in the travel industry for 25 years, and the Iberostar Grand Paraíso in Riviera Maya has remained one of my all-time favorite repeat resorts. It’s a place I’ve returned to time and time again—starting with my first visit over a decade ago. This time, I had the pleasure of sharing this Adults-Only gem with my mom, and it felt just as magical as ever!
While many resorts claim 5-star status, this one earns it. Located on a pristine stretch of white sand beach in Mexico’s Riviera Maya, the Iberostar Grand offers the perfect blend of luxury, fun in the sun, and genuine hospitality. The attentive butler and concierge service really elevate your stay. And with a 5.0 rating from nearly 10,000 TripAdvisor reviews—that says a lot for an all-inclusive!
The Suites: Where Comfort Meets Wow
Let me just say—I love the suites here. From the ultra-comfy beds and spacious bathrooms (double sinks, yes please!) to the calming earth-tone décor with stylish touches, every inch is thoughtfully designed. If you're dreaming of an ocean view, you’re in luck—this resort has some of the most jaw-dropping oceanfront suites in the region.
But my favorite feature? The balcony. Seriously, the best I’ve ever experienced. The extended overhang is so well-designed that even during a downpour (unless the rain is sideways), you can stand at the railing and stay completely dry. Watching storms roll in has always been nostalgic for me—it reminds me of watching them with my dad—and this balcony lets me relive those moments.
And naps? Don’t even get me started. We are big “first day nap” people, and thanks to the thick walls, it's always peaceful and quiet. It’s those simple pleasures that really make a vacation shine!
The Cuisine: All-Inclusive Done Right
One word: delicious.
The meals we’ve had here rank among the best we’ve ever had at an all-inclusive. With a variety of à la carte restaurants—from Surf & Turf and French cuisine to Italian, Japanese, and more—you’re never short on options. The breakfast and lunch buffets are next-level, complete with a Bloody Mary and Mimosa station.
Oh, and if you're a fan of ocean views while you dine, you're in luck—four of the restaurants offer spectacular beachfront views! Add in 24-hour room service with an extensive menu, and you're covered from sunrise to midnight snack.

They even have a heated indoor/outdoor pool with a retractable roof at the spa—so cool! Plus, you'll enjoy pool concierge service, fresh towels, Bali bed-style loungers, and all the chill vibes you could want.

There’s a nightly show included in your stay, but for something extra special, you can upgrade to a private dinner and theater experience. It's a lovely touch if you're celebrating something (or just want a night to remember).
Spa & Fitness
The spa here is seriously focused on connection and relaxation—especially for couples. Their private suites use chromotherapy (lighting with color to promote balance), and many include hydrotherapy options for the ultimate unwind. Their personalized service really stands out.If you want to stay active, there's a solid fitness center and even lighted tennis courts for evening matches.
Golf Lovers, Rejoice
If you golf (or travel with someone who does), this one’s a must. The on-site championship course is a par 72 with a slope of 136, and it’s beautifully manicured. My guy has played it a few times and loves it. It even featured on the Golf Channel’s The Big Break.
Bonus: you can get golf discounts or opt for unlimited packages right through the hotel.
The Special Touches That Stay With You
What really sets this resort apart are the personal touches. On one of our past trips, they arranged a surprise in-room birthday celebration for my guy—completely unprompted. Room service went above and beyond, and it made our stay feel extra memorable. (Ask me about it if you’re curious!)
