Add a river cruise to an ocean cruise to tour Scandinavia and Europe?  Brilliant!  Viking Cruises is now offering the chance to experience an ocean voyage cruising the North Sea combined with a river cruise on the Rhine River in Europe.  The bonus is that you get two cruises in one trip -- that means only one round trip airfare for two cruises.  In each port on both ocean and river, an excursion is included with insights into local life or privileged access to cultural treasures.

Ocean Voyage

These elegant “small ships” on the ocean accommodate a maximum of 930 passengers, but Viking’s outstanding amenities (every cabin has a full sized verandah), itinerary, and excellent onboard education and cultural orientation are certainly not small!!  Because of their size, these ships can dock in areas that larger ships cannot, giving Viking the flexibility of choosing less visited ports of call.

River Cruise

Your river cruise stateroom has a river view with your choice of a French balcony or verandah as you cruise through the castle dotted landscape.  Every detail on board a Viking ship is designed to enrich and enhance your travel experience, helping you fully immerse yourself in the rich cultures you are visiting. The insights of our guest lecturers and regional cuisine and vintages helps you connect to your destination in every possible way.

Your voyage begins in Bergen, Norway, with its rich Viking tradition.  On your way to Flam, you cruise  past awe inspiring fjords and once there, a trip on the Flam Scenic Railway will bring you even closer.  Other stops in Norway include Stavanger, Kristiansand, and Oslo where several famous maritime museums are located.  Departing Norway you will cruise to Skagen, Denmark, a small seaside fishing village -- a distinct contrast to bustling Oslo.  The last leg of your ocean cruise is from Skagen to Amsterdam with its scenic canals and world renowned art museums.  Here you transfer to your river cruise ship to begin the second half of your “double cruise” adventure.  You are now cruising the Middle Rhine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its breathtaking scenery, medieval forts and villages, and magnificent cathedrals.  You’ll visit Strasbourg, France, with its unique mix of German, Swiss and French cultures before your arrival in Basel, Switzerland, where you’ll say goodbye to your fellow shipmates.

This combination of cruises is becoming very popular with cruise enthusiasts and I would like to help you become one of them.
