Panoramic View of an Alaskan Glacier

Although Alaska has been part of the United States for over one hundred years, it is still a world apart.  Glaciers, wildlife, native culture, wide open spaces, and countless opportunities to bask in its stunning natural beauty make our fiftieth state a must visit.

Here are five things that surprised me on my last Alaskan cruise:

  • Nothing prepares you for the first time you see, then hear, a glacier calve.  When huge sheets of ice crash down into the ocean, you'll first see the action.  Then, a second or two later, comes the crash of thunder.  If you aren't watching before you hear the crash, you'll miss it completely.

  • Nothing prepares for you for the first time you see a majestic whale - or a whole pod of them - breaching the still surface of the water as they soar into the air, then crash down with a big splash.

  • Alaskans can grow huge vegetables and stunning flowers.  Imagine your own garden, but with 24 hours of sunlight over the four months of summer!

  • Native culture is alive and vibrant in Alaska.  Not limited to museums, as interesting as they are, native businesses and sightseeing activities add an immeasurable dimension to the state.

  • Some things are best seen from above, whether flightseeing and landing on a glacier, ascending to the top of a mountain by cable car, or simply enjoying the view of a glacier from the comfort of your ship's balcony stateroom.

Are you considering a trip to Alaska?  Do you want to make sure your visit hits the highlights while offering a chance to get off the beaten path?  Are you looking to combine an Alaskan cruise with a land tour, but have questions about which ship and tour are right for you?

As a veteran Alaskan traveler and certified destination expert, I can help you sift through the clutter and choose the right option for you - not for someone else.

Contact me to schedule a complimentary planning consultation by phone or Zoom Meeting, and before you know it, you'll wake up to a spectacular glacier view out your window!
